Creative Freedom..does it exist.......
Today while having our usual breakfast discussions with my colleagues in the office we started with the topic of Jodha Akbar..On eo fthe guys a Rajput from udaipur started off about how this movie will never be screened in Rajasthan and how much hurt and uproar it has caused in some communities by distorting the historical facts. He says that jodha was not akbars wife and so the movie should not be released. My question is if we dont have a concrete proof about jodha being akbars wife then do we have a concrete proof of the opposite i.e. she was not akbar's wife..why cant our society today tolerate an artist's view or his version or what he would like to make..we never qustion the authenticity of Ramayan or Mahabharat.simply because we have some religious sentiments attached to these scriptures...we may not have concrete proof of the existence of Ram and Seeta..but we never create a furore over it.. people keep filing suites against Hussain and his works...his version of Bharat Mata created such a hue n cry and protesters were all over the place slamming his work...why doesnt somebody ask them about who gave them a right to proclaim a certain image as approriate or inappropriate...maybe it was Hussain's perception of bharat mata and he drew as he felt right...who are we or anyone else for that matter to say this is not how it should be...whoever condemns Ashutosh Gowarikar and his film..has he seen it written somewhere anywhere that jodha was not Akbars wife or the one who thought Hussains Bharat Mata to be inappropriate...did Bharat Mata ever appeared before him in her true glory..so that he/she could point out that what Hussain drew was incorrect..
